Fall TV Recap 2006

10/3/06 to Television by Kirsten

Alex and I watch a lot of TV. Probably too much TV. I think I have something I have to watch on every night of the week except Saturday, because nothing good is ever on on Saturday. In fact, I have so much TV I watch that I didn't think I was going to be able to add any more shows to my current viewing schedule. Oh boy. I was wrong. It turns out, with proper time management and good use of your Tivo you can totally watch more shows. Especially if you don't watch any of those crappy shows on the CW. Here's the breakdown, day by day. There's probably lots of spoilers, so if you haven't, say, watched yesterday's Prison Break you might want to come back later after you've caught up with your own viewing schedule.

Monday

8:00: Monday brings the return of Prison Break! Yeah! Although, I was saying last night that I'm getting kinda tired of the plans being foiled every. single. week. But then that crazy FBI dude totally shot Tweener. I totally didn't see that coming. Kinda sad. Also didn't see the gov being killed. Not as sad. But, why did they have to kill off the cute lawyer girl? I liked her. Also- Wentworth Miller is super cute.

Hiro!
Hiro
<9:00: Heroes is one of the new shows I'm watching. I kinda dig it- except I don't like the blonde chick with the mirror thing, she annoys me. Hiro is super cool- I wish I could bend the space-time continuum. The show doesn't have the best dialogue, but, the characters are pretty engaging- I want to know what happens to cheerleader girl next week- and I hate cheerleaders. Mostly I'm interested in space-time-continuum guy, but I imagine the other characters will sart developing just as nicely. Ooh. Also- frozen brains! Creepy!

10:00: Studio 60. I wasn't going to watch this. Why would I watch this show about a sketch comedy show when I could watch one with Alec Baldwin? The choice seems obvious to me. But, the strange thing is, Studio 60 is actually really good. And I'm not a Sorkin fan. I hated the West Wing. I never watched Sports Night. I didn't care about him and all his melodrama. But I like this. It even manages to get past the fact that Matthew Perry is in the damn thing. He's actually one of the better parts of the show. He's not being so Chandlery. He did the smart thing (listen up LeBlanc)- he didn't do some lame spinoff show that wasn't funny. He's gone in a total different direction- he's not trying to be funny all the time and it's much nicer- and he put some much needed distance between him and Friends. Also, I really like Timothy Busfield. He's very funny.

Tuesday

8:00: There isn't anything good on at 8:00 on Tuesday. This would be a good time to watch one of your Tivo'd shows. Or read a book. Or not.

9:00: House. This show is so ridiculous, but I love it anyway. In real life House probably couldn't get malpractice insurance and I'd really want to be his lawyer cause I'd have a lot of work to do. But, in tv land, he gets away with everything- from sexism and racism to mistreating his patients. It's pretty awesome. And, Robert Sean Leonard is in it! All girls my age love Robert Sean Leonard. We all wanted to save him soooo badly in Dead Poets Society. Then we cried and cried when he killed himself. Then we watched the movie all over again, because Robert Sean Leonard is wicked cute. Funny thing, he's still cute, which is probably why most of us watch this show- it definitely isn't so we can learn anything about medicine.

smokin'
Aghdashloo
10:00 Smith. How come Ray Liotta is so cool? He kinda looks like an asshole- and he's definitely not pretty. But, I like heist stories- I never did get into the whole Heist tv show (it's since been cancelled), but I think this one will work better. Heist's gimmick was that the whole season was based on this one heist. If you miss the first few episodes you are kinda lost. People don't like that. Smith keeps it nice and simple- there is a continuing story line, but you can easily watch one episode without feeling lost. There's a new job to be done in every episode. And, the head of the crime syndicate is Shoreh Aghdashloo who is, quite possibly, one of the sexiest women to have ever walked the earth. I think she's like 60, but I'd do her. She's smokin. And, the other cool part about this show? Oh yeah, baby. Jonny Zero!. Jonny Zero was the best worst show on television. Unfortunately, it was so bad Fox cancelled it after 6 episodes.

Wednesday

8:00: This is kind of a dead zone. Alex and I tried to watch Jericho, but man, it was hard getting through that hour. I actually fast forwarded through a couple of the long drawn out speeches. Luckily, 30 Rock starts soon. That show better be funny.

9:00: LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10:00: Right now I'm watching Project Runway- but that's ending soon. Then this will be a complete and total deadzone. I liked it better when Law and Order was on Wednesday nights. We might try watching The Nine, but I think we already missed the first couple of episodes.

Thursday

8:00: This is where Tivo comes in. The Office is on at 8:30, but Survivor is on at 8:00. So, watch Survivor, record the Office, and everyone is happy!

skinny bitch
Pompeo

9:00: CSI. Fuck Grey's Anatomy. I hate Ellen Pompeo. She did an interview where she said she has to eat 3,000 calories a day to maintain her weight. Yeah, and I'm fucking Paris Hilton. How do I know this is true? Well, as you all know, I am a Law and Order junkie. One of my favorite things about being a Law and Order junkie is seeing now famous people play murderers and wives of murderers and lovers of murderers and bad defense attorneys on old Law and Order shows. Ellen Pompeo was one of those murderers. She played a woman who murders her own sister for her boyfriend, it's RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES from the Tammy Homolka case up in Canada. Anyway- she wasn't very waifish back then. And that was only in 2000. She was also in an older episode, but I don't remember the details of that one. Anyway- Ellen Pompeo is a liar! And CSI is a way better show.

10:00: So far I've been watching Six Degrees. But, it's kinda losing me. I really liked the first episode, but I didn't really enjoy the second. I'm not giving up on it yet- I just hate these shows with a million characters. You don't always like all of them- and when they focus on one you don't like for awhile then it totally turns you off. But, if I stop watching Six Degrees I sure as heck ain't tuning into ER. OH man, why doesn't some NBC exec put that show out of its misery?? Now John Stamos is on there sporting the same caesar cut that the formidable and hunky Clooney sported when he starred on the show. Sorry, folks, Stamos ain't no Clooney. I watched ER for seven solid seasons. Then I couldn't take it anymore. They totally jumped the shark- people are off in Africa- people are being kidnapped. More hospital! Less stupid shit!

Friday

10:00: Law and Order. 'Nuff said.

Sunday

8:00: Amazing Race. Jo will co-opt the TV for an hour and watch. I used to love the Amazing Race- Alex and I watched it until they did that lame family season. That blew it for me. Can't ever watch it again.

9:00: 9:00 is wierd on Sundays. There really isn't anything good on, but at 10:00 Without a Trace comes on. So, you are left in a predicament. You can watch Cold Case, which isn't bad, but isn't great; or you can do something else for an hour then tune back in for Without a Trace. I'm usually too lazy so I either a: watch Cold Case or b: channel surf for an hour and sometimes c: let someone else have the remote control in the house.

You forget that also on House is the boy that used to play Billy in Neighbours, who is now legally able to be fancied (ie, not 12). That's what I watch it for.
